Speaklio is a language-learning app: you hold a conversation in the language you are learning, and afterwards you review the mistakes you made. This page explains what that requires us to collect, what we do with it, and how to get rid of it.
Speaklio does not upload your voice recordings. When you speak to the app, the audio is turned into text by a speech-recognition model that runs entirely on your phone. Only the resulting text is sent to our servers, and only when you send the message. The audio itself never leaves your device and we have no way to retrieve it.
The reverse direction is different: when your conversation partner speaks back to you, that audio is generated on our servers from text and streamed to your device.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| An account identifier | To keep your conversations and progress attached to you across devices. |
| Your email address and a provider subject ID, if you sign in with Google or Apple | To recognise you when you sign in again. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address Apple gives us. |
| A device identifier, before you sign in | So you can try the app without an account, and so a single device cannot quietly create unlimited free accounts. It is deleted from our records the moment you sign in. |
| Your conversation messages, in text | To continue the conversation, to produce your feedback, and to let you reopen past sessions. |
| The mistakes identified in your messages, and your bookmarks | This is the review feature — it is the reason the app exists. |
| Daily and monthly usage counters | To enforce the allowances of your plan. |
| Your subscription status and the product you bought | To unlock Pro. See Payments below. |
We do not collect your contacts, your location, your photos, your calendar, or your device's advertising identifier. We do not build an advertising profile of you and we do not sell or share your personal data with anyone for advertising or any other purpose.
We use a small number of service providers, each of which handles data only on our instructions and only for the purpose listed:
The two language-model providers above are used through their paid APIs, whose terms exclude submitted content from being used to train their models. We do not use your conversations to train models of our own.
Speaklio never sees your card. Subscriptions are bought and billed by Apple through the App Store. Apple tells our subscription provider, RevenueCat, that a purchase happened, and RevenueCat tells us which plan your account should be on and when it expires. What reaches us is your plan, its status, and its renewal date — not your payment details.
Conversations, mistakes and bookmarks are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Generated speech audio is a cache: it is stored briefly to avoid re-generating the same sentence, and expires on its own.
You can delete an individual conversation at any time from the app. You can delete your entire account from Settings → Account; doing so erases your conversations, your mistakes, your bookmarks and your account record. This is immediate and cannot be undone.
Deleting your Speaklio account does not cancel an active App Store subscription — Apple controls that, and you cancel it in your App Store subscription settings. Cancel before deleting your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or erase the personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict how we process it, and to complain to your local data protection authority. The account deletion above covers erasure directly; for anything else, write to us at the address below and we will respond.
Speaklio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
Questions about this policy, or about your data, go to support@ysbits.com.
